The Seattle Seahawks sit atop the NFC West with a 3-2 record and head into this week’s Thursday Night Football matchup against the 2-3 San Francisco 49ers. Seattle will look to not only defend its home base, but also maintain its division lead against the struggling defending NFC champions. The 49ers blew a 13-point deficit at home last week to the Arizona Cardinals, but lost double-digit leads in two of their three losses.
Seattle is coming off a 29-20 loss to the Giants in which a potential game-tying field goal attempt was blocked and returned for a touchdown in the final minute.
This game could feature some passing fireworks, with Seattle’s Geno Smith leading the NFL in passing yards and San Francisco’s Brock Purdy fourth. Smith leads the NFL in pass attempts and ranks fourth in pass completion percentage.
As for Seattle’s injuries, defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins and wide receiver DK Metcalf are both dealing with hand injuries, but were full participants in practice this week. San Francisco safety Talano Hufanga missed practice with a wrist injury, and kicker Jake Moody also missed practice with an ankle injury. The 49ers signed veteran kicker Matthew Wright to replace him.
