SAN JOSE — The long-closed Fry’s Electronics site in San Jose is poised to become a major technology hub that will create jobs and a workplace for technology manufacturing, city planners have filed. indicated in the document.
Super Micro Computers plans to develop a brand new building totaling 333,400 square feet at San Jose City Hall that will be part of the technology hub at 550 East Brokaw Road in north San Jose.

The 19.7-acre site was once home to a large Fry’s Electronics store and warehouse, as well as the headquarters of the once-iconic defunct electronics retailer.
The famous Mayan-themed building that once housed Fry’s Store will remain after the new building is constructed, according to development plans.

This is the latest in a series of efforts to find new uses for many shuttered Fry’s buildings in the Bay Area.
In Fremont, city planners are considering a proposal to renovate and renovate the existing Fry’s Electronics store on Osgood Road near the Interstate 680 and Auto Mall Parkway interchange.
The Fremont project will create modernized buildings that will house advanced manufacturing, technology, research and industrial activities.
In north San Jose, Supermicro is eyeing the possibilities for a variety of activities within the building the tech company is looking to build.
The technology company aims to conduct manufacturing in the proposed three-story building, which would also accommodate a warehouse component.
Super Microcomputer paid $80 million for the property at 550 East Brokaw in February 2024 in an all-cash transaction, according to Santa Clara County real estate documents.
Now, for the first time, the technology company’s plans for Fry’s old site are starting to become clear. A development schedule was not immediately available.
“The scope of work includes construction of the core and shell of the building, as well as site improvements such as sidewalks, curbs and gutters, bicycle storage, and street trees,” the supermicro plan states.
