Day 2 of the 2024 MLB postseason will be the first day of possible elimination due to the best-of-three wild card round. The Tigers, Royals, Mets and Padres all took a big step toward the Division Series with a Game 1 win and will look to get an extra day of rest before the Division Series begins Saturday.
Tigers 5, Astros 2
The Detroit Tigers shocked the Houston Astros in the Wild Card Series on Tuesday, defeating the American League powerhouse 5-2 on home soil and advancing to the ALDS.
The Tigers took the lead in the 6th inning with a solo home run by Parker Meadows, survived with a 2-run comeback by the Astros in the 7th inning, and then came back in the 8th to seal the victory. After a series of blunders by Ryan Pressley and Josh Hader, Andy Ibáñez played the hero’s role with a bases-loaded double to give the Tigers a lead they couldn’t relinquish.
The Astros’ loss ended a seven-season streak of reaching at least the ALCS. Meanwhile, the Tigers hadn’t won a playoff series since 2013.
The wild card schedule for Wednesday’s Game 2 is as follows:
