Gaps need to be closed to ensure Europe’s competitiveness in technology development, industry experts warn
Europe is lagging behind the world’s two largest countries in both the research underlying new technologies and the infrastructure needed to develop them, industry experts have warned.
“We have two gaps,” Pascal Metivier, head of research and innovation at materials company Syensqo, told Research Europe. “First, we are behind in research and development of new technologies compared to the United States and China. Second, even when we discover a technology, we still need pilots, demonstrations, and further research. We have to bridge both of these gaps.”
