FALCONER — Salamanca defeated Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove 48-21 on Friday night at Bill Race Field to win its third consecutive Class C Southern Soccer Championship.
Fittingly, Maddox Isaac found himself in the middle of nearly all of the Warriors’ offensive fireworks.
The senior quarterback rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns, completing 6 of 7 passes for 102 yards and 1 TD to lead Salamanca to victory. For reference, senior Xavier Peters added 100 yards on the ground and found the end zone on runs of 3, 32 and 5 yards. Sophomore Quentin Brown got the extra point with a 5-yard burst on a chip shot.
With the district championship win, the Warriors, the No. 2 team in Class C in the state, improved to 6-0 overall and 6-0 in the district, and head coach Chad Bartoszek looked pretty satisfied as he answered questions after the game. .
“I’m very proud,” Bartoszek said. “…We want to do things at a very high level and we have the ability to do it. We strive to be as perfect as possible. We just set a high bar.”

Much of his satisfaction came from Maddox’s development behind center.
“We tend not to give him reads or anything because it takes away from his natural playmaking ability,” Bartoszek said. “We’re giving him the freedom to make some decisions, and that’s when you start to see his game really expand.”
Maddox, a varsity signalman for four seasons, ran from sideline to sideline in the first quarter and ripped off a 65-yard TD run. He added another 1-yard run for the extra point and connected with Zach Treatly for a 13-yard scoring strike in the second period to give Salamanca a 28-7 lead at halftime.
After the break, Peters scored two rushing touchdowns and Brown added one.
“We have good punch there,” Bartoszek said.
For injury-riddled Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove (4-2, 3-2), senior Charlie Reichenbach ripped off TD runs of 42 and 43 yards in the third quarter. Junior Taylor Jones scored the Hurd’s first touchdown, set up by a Salamanca fumble, with just under six minutes left in the first quarter.
Despite the loss, Herd head coach Curt Fisher was pleased with his short-handed team’s performance, marking his first time when he was Falconer’s junior varsity coach under then-head coach Bill Race. He was very impressed with the Warriors, the team he started coaching. 30 years ago.
“They have a lot of special players and I truly believe it’s like the George Witcher (era),” Fisher said. “When Chad came back (to coach), he brought Salamanca pride back.”
NOTES: Treaty led the Salamanca defense with 16 tackles, Corey Holleran had nine tackles and Avery Brown had eight tackles. …Waylon Dowdy intercepted a pass and Evan Spruce Jr. recovered a fumble. …Falconers/Cassadaga Valley rushed for 248 yards, most of which came from Reichenbach, but Jones and Noah Blount were also effective when given the chance.
