History Houghton, MI – The Nanooks hockey team lost to Michigan Technological University on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies opened the 2024-25 season with a 2-1 win over Alaska, dropping the Nooks to 0-4-0.

All of the goals came in the first period. 3:30 into the first period, Steven Saldarian scored Tech’s first goal, making it 1-0. Thirteen minutes later, Chase Pietila scored the game-winning goal, putting the Huskies up 2-0. Alaska managed to get one point back with a goal from Chase DeFoe at 18:29 into the first, but unfortunately that was all they scored. Matt Rickard scored his first goal with an assist, and Carson Reed added a point with an apple.

Alaska saw just one power play opportunity that night. They lost 0-1. MTU has 1 win and 2 losses. The second goal of the night came on the man advantage.

Nanooks won MTU 30-18. Alaska will be at Notre Dame next weekend.
