I knew it would be difficult for Week 7 to match the drama of Week 6, but it was almost as intense.
In the day’s most notable game, third-place Oregon State defeated second-place Ohio State 32-31 in a back-and-forth battle in Eugene. The Big Ten showdown was the first top-three matchup of the season, and the lead changed hands each time, leading to a dramatic ending.
And in perhaps Saturday’s most thrilling game, No. 13 LSU upset No. 9 Mississippi in overtime on Garrett Nussmeier’s TD throw. This is a crucial result in a crowded SEC title race as this year’s college football season reaches its halfway point.
And to end the night, No. 18 Kansas State defeated Colorado 31-28 after a big brawl in Boulder.
Earlier in the day, No. 7 Alabama dealt with another tough opponent at home against South Carolina. The Crimson Tide needed defensive heroics late in the game to stay alive with a 27-25 victory over the Gamecocks. No. 4 Penn State then had to come back on its own before winning 33-30 in overtime at the Coliseum.
Meanwhile, the nation’s No. 1 team left no doubts about how the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma State would go. The Longhorns allowed an early field goal before scoring 34 straight points in the Cotton Bowl rout.
Here’s how it all happened on Saturday.
