Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious left leg injury and was forced off the field after being sacked by Dallas’ Dak Prescott.
As Hutchinson was dragging Prescott down in the third quarter on Sunday, Hutchinson’s leg collided with teammate Alim McNeil’s left leg and appeared to break above the ankle.
At the time of Hutchinson’s injury, the Lions led 34-6 and entered the game leading the NFL in sacks with 6.5.
After Detroit won 47-9, Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Hutchinson suffered a fractured tibia.
“Obviously he’s going to be down for a while,” Campbell said. “It’s tough. It’s tough to lose someone like him. But we’ll know more after this and obviously we wish him the best.”
Hutchinson underwent surgery on his foot shortly after arriving at the hospital.
There was a roughly 10-minute delay as medical personnel treated Hutchinson while players from both teams made a large circle around the 2022 No. 2 overall draft pick.
After Hutchinson was carted away with his leg in a cast, teammates and Dallas players reached out to pat the 24-year-old. Hutchinson had his third sack of the game for Detroit. McNeil made the first two, and Trevor Nowaske added the other after Hutchinson left.
