The Los Angeles Dodgers came out strong in Game 4, taking a 3-1 lead in the National League, and their offense overpowered the New York Mets’ pitching staff early on, often winning 10-2. .
In the first inning, with no outs and the bases loaded, Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff home run, his first hit of the postseason, showing signs of what was to come.
The Dodgers added multiple runs in the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th innings to extend their lead. Their offense was relentless and exacting, with nine walks and also hit by pitches by a Mets staff that may have been starting to feel the rotation’s short start.
Mets relief pitcher Danny Young pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth frame. It was New York’s first scoreless inning since the fourth inning of Game 3.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed 2 earned runs, and had 8 strikeouts. The bullpen took over from there and didn’t allow a run, but Evan Phillips and Blake Treinen both had unusual troubles on the road.
The end result is a dire situation for the Mets, who will enter Game 5 with few good starting pitching options after Kodai Chiga’s rough game 1. Director Carlos Mendoza spoke to reporters after the match David Peterson will likely get the start after practicing in the bullpen throughout the postseason.
Meanwhile, Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty, who pitched seven scoreless innings in Game 1, is scheduled to start. The Dodgers will be heavily favored in Game 5, scheduled for Friday at 5:08 p.m. at Citi Field (Fox Sports 1).

The Dodgers went down in order in the 9th inning. According to the FS1 broadcast, this was the first 1-2-3 inning since the fourth inning of Game 3. Their offense was that good.

The Mets have several options as to who will pitch in Game 5, but none of them are ideal. There is:
Kodai Senga is aiming to make a comeback from injury, and in the first game he was beaten in 1/3 of the first inning.
David Peterson had a strong regular season as a starter, but spent most of the postseason practicing in the bullpen.
Sean Manaea was great in Game 2, but was scheduled to pitch on short rest (and that will have a huge impact on his future)
The bullpen game, basically Chiga’s disastrous Game 1 game, turned out differently (the Dodgers ended up scoring nine points).
With Jack Flaherty starting for the Dodgers and pitching seven scoreless innings in Game 1, Los Angeles appears to be heavily favored to end this game on Friday.

Edgardo Enriquez pitched eight scoreless innings. The end is near.

The Dodgers currently have ace defender Kevin Kiermaier, who served as a pinch runner for Teoscar Hernandez, in center field, and have pushed Andy Pages into Hernandez’s left field seat.

Shohei Ohtani fouled the ball and hit his left knee hard, causing considerable pain. He stayed in the game, but was still walking around with a noticeable limp after pitching. He ended the inning with a strikeout, but the Dodgers will now make sure he’s okay.

Dodgers 10, Mets 2
Will Smith singled and scored Edman. The Dodgers are giving up a lot of runs. Every player in the lineup has a hit. The Mets are in a bad situation.

It’s not all good for the Dodgers. Max Muncy had a strikeout, ending his postseason streak on base with a record-tying 12. It’s hard to see.

This is a very good point. The Padres have a good rotation and are one of the few batting lineups that can go toe-to-toe with the Dodgers. San Diego forced them into the ropes, but then their offense disappeared into the NLDS. There may not be a better match for Los Angeles this postseason.
The Padres were really, really good.

Dodgers 9, Mets 2
The Dodgers are trying to break the spirit right now. Tommy Edman had a double and scored two runs, making it the third game in the series in which he scored at least eight runs.
It’s the 8th inning and some of the Mets fans are leaving.

Teoscar Hernandez gave up another walk, the Dodgers’ eighth of the game and 30th of the series. That ties the record for the most in the first four games of a championship series, according to the broadcast. Combined with the power at the top of the pecking order, it’s a tough combination to win the entire series.

Marte jumped out in front of the cordon. The Dodgers’ bullpen was more volatile than usual in this game, but they still didn’t allow a run. There are six outs left for the Mets to score five points, or they’ll need another big upset to win this series.
Thursday, October 17, 2024 11:05 PM EDT
Treinen allowed a leadoff single to Francisco Lindor, and Brandon Nimmo put runners on the corners with a two-out single. The Mets have a chance to score multiple points here, and it’s all up to Starling Marte.

Gasp, the Mets put a runner on base and put Ohtani out.
Still 7-2, the Mets’ top order will be determined in the bottom of the seventh inning. Blake Treinen remains after throwing two pitches in the sixth inning.

Kudos to Scarlett Johansson for wearing a Met hat in this game.

Shohei Ohtani will put runners on first and second base with two outs, and Phil Mayton will be fine with that. Left-handed Danny Young will come in and try to keep this game within some reasonable attacking distance.
