Haason Reddick’s revised contract costs approximately $2.4 million in response to a complaint filed by the NFL Players Association.
After speaking with multiple parties, PFT confirmed that the union previously filed a complaint based on a penalty of one regular-season game check for each preseason game Redick missed. At $791,667 per week, that’s $2,375,000.
Under the CBA, non-forgivable fines apply only to contracts signed by players as unrestricted free agents. The argument is that Redick signed with the Eagles as a UFA and then his contract was traded.
If the same claim is successful, it would result in a $2 million fine ($50,000 per day) for missing 40 days of training camp. But that issue is not part of the conflict. This means the Jets have no intention of waiving the fine.
If dissatisfaction prevails, they are willing to abandon the other.
The Jets have not taken a position on this complaint. Their goal at this point is to make Reddick happy. This grievance isn’t likely to be resolved until the end of the season, so the Jets probably don’t care about making him happy even if the grievance isn’t resolved.
