In the first episode of The Big Number, Yahoo Sports contributor Tom Haberstroh digs into the numbers with Dan Devine, Yahoo Sports’ senior NBA writer, to find out how preseason center shooting affects regular season and beyond. Find out if it gives .

According to Tom’s big numbers, only about 20% of centers who significantly increase their 3-point attempts in the preseason carry it over into the regular season and beyond. But will the Boston Celtics’ success change things this year?

Tom and Dan discuss four players who shot more from long distance this preseason (Bam Adebayo, Anthony Davis, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Deandre Ayton) and how they felt they shot more from long range after games. Pour in the numbers to see if there are any signs of taking a shot. It’s really important.

The players end the show by setting over-unders on the players discussed and flagging whether or not they think each player will dramatically increase their 3-point attempt rate this season.
