On Wednesday, September 25th, Queens College students interested in attending law school gathered in Powdermaker Hall for an information session about New York State Law School and the opportunities available to pursue a legal career at the school. I learned about
The event was led by pre-law program advisors Professor Keena Lipsitz and Assistant Professor Mona Kleinberg. Professor Kleinberg told Knight News that the event was designed to “broaden access to the legal profession” by educating undergraduates about admission to the university’s law faculty.
“This event is part of a larger, ongoing effort to provide as much information as possible about the law school,” Professor Kleinberg said.
Nathan Tosh, SUNY Law School Admissions Coordinator, explains the various aspects of NYU Law that differentiate SUNY Law from other law schools in the country, including the law school admissions process, Law School Admission Test (LSAT), and class profile and clinical program. I talked to students about aspects. , and the costs of applying to and attending the facility.
Tosh said CUNY Law has “some of the best public interest lawyers in the country,” including public defenders, prosecutors, housing and immigration lawyers, and lawyers who work with foreign clients and refugees. It is said to be well known for.
“Anything that relates to our mission of laws that respond to human needs,” Tosh said.
CUNY Law also has some of the best clinical programs appealing to law students. Clinical programs allow law students to apply what they have learned in law school to the real world. Coursework includes learning about legal writing, moot court, specialized programs, and training for the bar exam that all law students must take to become attorneys.
Another unique feature of CUNY Law is its commitment to diversifying the legal field. Tosh argued that the legal profession is primarily cisgender, white, and heterosexual. But CUNY Law differentiates itself by offering more opportunities to people of color than most law schools.
“61.4% of this year’s freshmen identify as BIPOC, and 35.3% identify as white-only,” Tosh said.
While a student’s LSAT score and GPA carry considerable weight in the law school admissions process across the country, Tosh believes that a student’s LSAT score and GPA are an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their character, values, and purpose for their application to admissions committees. He emphasized the importance of the statement. Go to law school.
“By inviting a diverse group of people, the Pre-Law program helps students who are interested in or eager to attend law school prepare for the application process and make educated decisions. I feel empowered and empowered,” Tosh explained.
Professor Kleinberg told the Night News that the pre-law school program helps students planning to apply to law school develop a strong application, how to pay for law school, and He said it will help them prepare for what’s to come, including helping them figure out what to pay for. Apply to the Pipeline program during your sophomore year.
The Pre-Law program will continue to host similar events throughout the semester, including the New York LSAC Forum during free hours on October 18th and 19th.
