Jets defensive end Haason Reddick played in his first game of 2024 on Sunday. On Monday, he had his first taste of being criticized by Bill Belichick, who hates negative comments from his football coach.
“Redick came into the game and ran by the quarterback a number of times,” Belichick said on his weekly appearance with Pat McAfee, creating lanes for scrambles by the Patriots’ quarterback.
Reddick said on Twitter: “Someone please call Bill Belichick and give him a job. He’s bored at home and can’t seem to keep me off his tongue.”
It’s not really about Reddick. Belichick appears to be using his bully pulpit to score points and advance his agenda, courtesy of numerous media jobs. He doesn’t like the Jets. Firing Reddick was collateral damage.
Still, it would be interesting to see Belichick receive some backlash. Why should he be immune to criticism for his own criticism? He moved from the football stage to the media stage. In either crucible, everything you say and do can and will be criticized by someone.
