LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Doctors say the best way to avoid illness this winter is to get vaccinated.
Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines can prevent respiratory illnesses that cause cough, aches, and fever.
During the cold season, it is common to contract and transmit viruses such as coronavirus disease (COVID-19), influenza, and other respiratory illnesses.
Dr. John Brooks of McLaren Health said: “We’re starting to congregate, kids are going back to school, we’re into the holiday season, people are congregating quite a bit, so these viruses can spread to each other relatively quickly. I will do it,” he said. care.
Brooks is an infectious disease expert. He said the importance of annual vaccinations is to take the best possible precautions.
“The flu changes every year, and we want to make sure we have the best immunity possible before we get infected and the coronavirus changes like the flu,” Brooks said.
The state’s goal is to vaccinate 4 million residents during the 2024-2025 flu season, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. However, approximately 1.3 million Michiganders (33%) have received the flu vaccine. The CDC often uses the period from October 1 to April 30 to monitor influenza season. The vaccination status for the new coronavirus infection will remain almost the same from October 2023 to October 24, 2023.
Health systems and institutions like Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Community Health are doing their part to increase that number.
“To prevent the spread and prevent chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease from getting worse. This can lead to death, so we need to be proactive and try to prevent that from happening.” It’s just that,” said Heidi Hazell, director of the Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Regional Health Department.
Hazel says the best way to protect yourself is to get up to date with your vaccinations. Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face. Health officials say if you’re sick, stay home, but if you have to go out, wear a mask.
