It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Daniel Philip Glassman. He passed away on September 28, 2025 in Green Cove Springs, Florida at the young age of 75.
Dan was born on November 23, 1949 in Sialkot, Pakistan, the son of missionary parents Gene and Jane Glassman. Growing up overseas gave him a deep sense of independence, a love of adventure, and an appreciation for diverse cultures, people, and languages, ideas he carried with him throughout his life and instilled in his children.
Dan graduated from the American International School in Kabul, Afghanistan, received bachelor’s degrees from Parks College and Southern Illinois University, and then earned an MBA from the University of Hartford. His education inspired a lifelong love of learning, curiosity, and creativity. That vision led Dan to become an entrepreneur, leading the international operations of a major stenography software company, founding his own business, and inventing the stenography machine that is now used around the world.
Dan was present in every moment of our lives and was never too busy to show up. He coached his children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams, taught them how to use pocket knives and slingshots, and kept chocolates in his pockets when their parents weren’t looking. Dan quietly plowed his neighbor’s driveway, tutored a child with special needs, and fixed a friend’s flat tire without them even realizing it. Gifted with a talent for anticipating the needs of others and sensing how to make them feel most loved, Dan’s thoughtfulness was unparalleled. He never missed a loved one’s birthday and forever lavished everything he had. Dan lived well and loved well.
Known as both a teacher and a prankster, Dan quietly carried these traits with kindness and a great sense of humor. Whether it was chores, car repairs, or life lessons, everyone called him because he always knew the answer. He was a world traveler, volunteer firefighter, motorcycle enthusiast, aviation enthusiast, and lifelong UConn women’s basketball fan. Dan was also a fan of flannel shirts and had amazing dance moves and a talent for swearing in various Middle Eastern languages. He will be fondly remembered for stirring up spicy political conversation during holiday meals, for his love of Milanese cookies, for insisting that people use proper grammar, and for his always true words: “It’s always something,” “It depends,” and “Cross that bridge when you get there.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Howard, of Bemus Point, NY; son John (Megan) Glassman and their children Addie, Bibi and James of Fleming Island, Florida; daughter Meg (Jack) Hudson and their children Johnny, Laney and Phillip of Brentwood, Tennessee; his stepson, Justin (Katie) Howard and their children, Madeline, Evan and Mackenzie of Shorereview, MN; Aaron (Lauren) Howard and their children Emory and Julian of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Jackie (Ben) Wickerham and their children, Margot, Sophie, and Emma of Fayetteville, North Carolina; He is also survived by brothers Jim (Corky) Glassman of Pasadena, California, Steve (Joan) Glassman of Surprise, Arizona, and sister Ruth (Ken) Kravitz of Keithville, New York. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kay Glassman (nee Gelfand), whose memories he will cherish for the rest of his life, and by his parents, Gene Glassman and Jane Glassman. His legacy lives on in the laughter, wit, and strength of his children and grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Bemus Point Cemetery on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
