Wolves vs Liverpool: preview, predictions, line-up

Liverpool will aim to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City when they take on Wolves in kick-off on Saturday night.

Gary O’Neill’s side had a largely dismal start to the new season, with their only win coming in the Carabao Cup, where they were defeated by Brighton & Hove Albion. They lost 1-3 to Aston Villa in the last tournament.

Meanwhile, the Reds continued their strong start under new manager Arn Slott by defeating West Ham United 5-1 in the Carabao Cup. The likes of Luis Dias, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Codi Gakpo have all scored recently, and Saturday will pose a formidable challenge for Wolves and O’Neill.

Here’s a 90-minute preview of this matchup from Gameweek 6:

The Timberwolves have taken a big hit defensively recently, with Elson Mosquera sidelined for an extended period with a knee injury. He will be unavailable for the visit to Liverpool, along with Boubacar Traore, Sasa Kalajdzic, Enzo Gonzalez and Bastian Mpilyu.

Santiago Bueno could partner Craig Dawson in central defence, as Toti Gomez faces a second-half challenge to be fit to play.

Expected line-up for Wolves vs Liverpool

Expected lineup for Wolves vs. Liverpool (4-4-1-1): Johnston; Semedo, Bueno, Dawson, Aito Nouri; Bellegarde, Andre, Gomez, Cunha. Remina. Larsen.

liverpool team news

Goalkeeper Alisson has missed Liverpool’s last two games with a hamstring injury, with Caoich Kelleher replacing him between the sticks. However, Slott revealed the Brazilian is likely to be fit to start at Molineux.

His return will be a boost, but Harvey Elliott is the only player who is certain to miss out due to fitness issues. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are among the players expected to return to the starting line-up after the win against West Ham.

Liverpool’s predicted line-up against Wolves (4-2-3-1): Alisson. Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson. Graven Birch, Mac Allister. Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz. Nuñez.

The Wolves are really up against it at the moment. Wanderers started without a win in the league and fell to 19th in the Premier League standings, conceding 14 goals, the most in the league, level with Basement Boys Everton.

In contrast, Liverpool have only beaten Manchester City and Chelsea so far and have a number of in-form attacking options that they can rely on whenever needed. The slot side may be licking their lips at the prospect of a visit from Molineux, as the hosts also find themselves a bit short on centre-backs.

The Reds have been in good form with 11 points in the final third in their last three games, and Saturday night could be another treat for Salah and company.
