Do the 49ers have a Brandon Aiyuk problem?

Something is wrong with this year’s 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He says that’s because the defense plays differently. Some think it’s because his restraint lasted too long into the preseason. Some may wonder if there are still issues between Aiyuk and the 49ers even after he receives his paycheck.

As for that last possibility, Aiyuk somehow showed up to practice Friday wearing the wrong shorts. Coach Kyle Shanahan told him the story, and Aiyuk changed his shorts (from red to black) on the practice field.

After practice, Shanahan was asked if Aiyuk showed up wearing the wrong shorts.

“Yeah, he did,” Shanahan said. “That’s a good question.”

Will it be punished?

“No,” Shanahan said. “I wish I could wear different pants.”

Shanahan may wish he had traded Aiyuk when he had the chance. As Fox’s Jay Glazer reported a few weeks ago, and as Shanahan essentially confirmed, the 49ers finalized a deal to trade Aiyuk to the Steelers when Aiyuk signed a contract to remain in San Francisco. I was just doing that.

Whatever is going on, today is worth paying attention to. Aiyuk has 11 catches for 119 yards this season.
