KINGWOOD — The Elkins High School golf team won it all at the Big Ten Championships held Monday at Preston County Country Club.

The Tigers shot a team total of 320 and won the tournament by two strokes over Bridgeport.

“We were down one stroke to Bridgeport and senior DJ Luke hadn’t even made a score yet,” said Dave Baird, the league’s Coach of the Year, “and he shot an 83 to seal the win.”

Lucas D’Angelo celebrated his birthday in style for the Tigers, earning minuscule medalist honors with a score of 72.

“Lucas saved the best round of his golf career today on his birthday,” Baird said. “He was huge for us today.”

Drew Hintzman scored 79 points for Elkins and was named Big Ten Player of the Year.

“This is a big win for us,” D’Angelo said, “and it’s all thanks to our Coach of the Year (Baird). We’re going to try and get this win again at the regional tournament.”

Rounding out the Tigers’ scoring were 86s from Dylan Hintzman and Luca Collier and 97 from Lincoln Fletcher.

“I’m very happy with how we played today,” Baird added. “Our seniors fought hard and we beat a lot of strong teams.”

Lewis County (325) took third place, followed by Fairmont Senior (331), East Fairmont (334), Preston (344), Grafton (356), Buckhannon-Upshur (365), Philip Barbour (365), Lincoln (396) and North Marion (423).

Parker Lockwood and Draden Rice each scored 91 points to lead the Buccaneers, while Trey Grassi (84) and Anthony Moseso (85) led the Colts.

FAIRMONT — The game between the Elkins Middle School boys soccer team and East Fairmont ended in a 1-1 tie Monday night.
