Sunday’s game against the Eagles was the worst for the Giants.
Their offense gained 119 yards on their home field, and former Giants forward Saquon Barkley gained 187 yards from scrimmage and the first touchdown in a 28-3 Eagles victory. Barkley’s departure this offseason was a hot topic during this year’s Giants’ Hard Knocks appearance, in which team owner John Mara was seen telling general manager Joe Schon and others, “I won’t sleep if Barkley signs with the Eagles.” was caught on camera.
Still, Coach Schoen wasn’t willing to make Barkley an offer he couldn’t refuse, and Mara said he expects the team to make a big improvement this summer after finishing 6-11 last season. Ta. Sunday’s loss dropped the Giants to 2-5, but they have scored 10 points over the past two weeks, so 6-11 seems like the best-case scenario. That prompted questions from head coach Brian Daboll on Monday about whether he had been contacted by Mara or co-owner Steve Tisch after Sunday’s loss.
“Oh, we’re talking again,” Daboll said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. “I know you ask this a lot, but please be respectful. We have a conversation after every game. We’ll keep that conversation private.”
The Giants will travel to Pittsburgh next Monday night before hosting the Commanders in Week 9. If these games play out similar to the past two games, there will be a strong appetite for change around the Giants.
