The Rams scored 13 straight points after trailing by 10 early in the fourth quarter to pull off an incredible comeback win against the 49ers on Sunday.
One of the reasons they were able to pull off the comeback was a drop by 49ers wide receiver Ronnie Bell. Bell got open on a double move with just over a minute left in the game with the score tied and sent a pass to Brock Purdy that put the 49ers in field goal position. However, the ball bounced off Bell and the Rams were forced to punt, leading to the game-winning field goal.
It wasn’t Bell’s first dropped ball, but Purdy said the team isn’t going to lose faith in him.
“He’s young. He’s a guy I love,” Purdy said on the Rams’ record. “And we’re all rooting for Ronnie, so we’re going to need him and we’re going to keep developing him. And we’re all in this together. This is a team sport, so it’s not one guy, one play here. It’s got to be all hands on deck.”
Purdy isn’t wrong that one play wasn’t the cause of their second straight loss, as the 49ers missed a field goal, failed to get a defensive stop and allowed a big punt return after Bell’s drop, but Bell’s play was a big one and one the 49ers will want to get back.
