Chargers vs. Cardinals drew 1.8 million spectators

Unsurprisingly, in a staggered doubleheader with one game on broadcast and cable and the other on the ESPN+ service, the streamed game between the Chargers and Cardinals didn’t draw as many viewers.

ESPN didn’t mention attendance numbers in its press release for the Week 7 Monday night game, and there’s a good reason for that. The game attracted 1.8 million spectators, according to sources familiar with the data.

That includes those who watched via over-the-air channels in local markets such as Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Now, 1.8 million people is not bad for a sporting event. That’s a terrible number for an NFL game. That’s why ESPN didn’t mention attendance numbers for the Chargers vs. Cardinals.

Let’s hope this number is low enough that ESPN doesn’t run another staggered doubleheader on one of the ESPN+ games. If they want to do away with Monday night staggered doubleheaders altogether, I wouldn’t complain.
