With only one matchup between the top 25 teams, this week looked like it could be a bust. But college football always delivers results when you least expect it, and it did so in a big way on Saturday.

A week after holding off Georgia in a clash of SEC powerhouses, No. 1 Alabama lost to Vanderbilt 40-35 in Nashville. The Commodores trailed by 23.5 points, but won the upset and never trailed. Vandy QB Diego Pavia was the hero, completing 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, and also added 57 yards rushing.

Elsewhere, No. 5 Georgia State bounced back from its loss to Alabama thanks to Auburn’s handling, No. 3 Ohio State looked convincing in the Iowa loss, and freshman Jeremiah Smith once again He made a one-handed TD grab. In the only rank-on-rank matchup, No. 25 Texas A&M defeated No. 9 Missouri 41-10 earlier in the day.
