JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The City of Jonesboro will discuss funding for an outdoor swimming facility at its new sports complex.
The Congressional Committee on Fiscal Management is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to discuss the City Council’s resolution to allocate $3.2 million from American Rescue Plan Act funds and work with the Advertising and Promotions Committee to build an aquatic center. be.
“The additional funding requested will significantly enhance water features such as slides, play and splash facilities in the outdoor water area, and complement indoor competition and recreational pool facilities,” the resolution states. “The proposed outdoor and indoor aquatics programs will be mutually beneficial to Jonesboro residents and the success of the sports complex’s efforts to recruit athletic events.”
Talks on the sports complex have been ongoing since 2022.
A feasibility study in October of that year touched on conceptual designs for the facility, which included an indoor swimming area with a pool, diving board and warm-up pool with a splash pad. A 22,000 square foot outdoor aquatic area was also mentioned.
The projected price for the complex discussed in April 2024 is $77,325,375.
