Criticizing Oprah, falsely claiming that Trump appeared on her show in the final week

Former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday night complained about a recent interview between Oprah Winfrey and Vice President Kamala Harris, reviving a false claim he made previously: that he appeared on Winfrey’s TV show during its final week.

“A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to appear on her final network television show,” Trump wrote on social media. “The final week of her show was a big event and it was an honor for me to appear with my family.”

He also criticized Winfrey’s interview with Harris on Thursday, which featured many celebrities and drew hundreds of thousands of viewers, writing, “I can’t help but think this is not the real Oprah.”

Trump previously claimed he appeared on the final week of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” a claim he has previously denied. CNN reported in 2020 that Trump has made the claim at least four times as president and has been making it since at least 2013. Trump appeared on the show’s final season but not during the show’s big TV finale.

Mr. Trump’s last appearance on Winfrey’s show was with his wife and children on Feb. 7, 2011, three and a half months before the show ended, according to archived television listings. Appearances during the show’s final week in late May that year included Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Madonna, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jordan, Aretha Franklin, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, according to listings.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment Sunday, and a spokesman for Winfrey declined to comment.

Winfrey endorsed Harris this year and spoke at the Democratic National Convention last month. Her livestreamed interview with Harris on Thursday night featured appearances by other celebrities including Chris Rock, Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep.
