DJ Uiagalelei may have played his final college snaps.
The Florida State quarterback underwent surgery this week to repair an injury to his pitching hand and is expected to miss at least several weeks and possibly the rest of the season, sources told 247 Sports and CBS Sports. . Uiagalelei would struggle to qualify for medical hardship waivers if he chooses to go that route — he has already played in more than 30% of FSU’s 12 regular season games — But even if they choose that path, it is unlikely.
Uiagalelei suffered the injury in the Seminoles’ game against SMU last week. This helped FSU shift their starting QB to Brock Glenn for today’s matchup with Clemson.
Uiagalelei, who transferred to Florida State this offseason after playing at Clemson State and Oregon State, started the Seminoles’ first five games at quarterback. Uiagalele has four touchdown passes and six interceptions through his first five games at FSU. Before being replaced by Glenn, he had 223 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against SMU.
Uia Galelei’s career resurgence at Oregon State, where he scored 27 touchdowns in 2023, didn’t translate to Tallahassee, where Florida State started the year as a preseason top-10 team. Uiagalelei was ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the 2020 class behind Bryce Young. He spent his first three seasons at Clemson and was a starter in the 2021 and 2022 seasons as well.
