Dodgers vs. Mets scores, latest updates: Los Angeles expected to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the NLCS in Game 4 in New York

It may seem like a long time ago, but just nine days ago, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a home run to left field, and the Los Angeles Dodgers lost the best-of-five series to the San Diego Padres, 2-1, and advanced to the NLDS. I was in a predicament. right.

But the Dodgers found their groove, and it really started with L.A.’s pitching in the Game 3 loss. The Dodgers were scoreless after the second inning of that game, a streak that continued for the remainder of the series and into the NLCS. In the past five games, the Dodgers’ pitching staff has posted four shutouts, including wins for both teams in the NLCS.

The Mets need to get back the offensive line that won Game 2, 7-3, if they have any chance of tying the series. That’s because the Dodgers’ hot offense has averaged 5.3 points per game in these playoffs, and has scored 20 points so far in this series. .

On Thursday, the Mets turned to pitcher Jose Quintana, but the Dodgers countered with pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched five shutout innings in his last start in LA’s victory over San Diego in Game 5 of the NLDS.

Max Muncy hit a leadoff single in the seventh inning. This ties Reggie Jackson’s consecutive postseason on-base records and is the only record achieved in a single season (single series or more).

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:43 PM EDT

Check, Blake Treinen comes out to end the inning. Jesse Winker hits a deep fly ball, but Mookie Betts catches it on the warning track. Another scoreless inning for the Dodgers bullpen.

Another aggressive move to bring in Treinen, and it’s only 6 innings.

McNeil hit a fly to center field, but it was caught too shallow for Brandon Nimmo to score from third base. The Mets brought in Jesse Winker as a pinch hitter, and the Dodgers eventually responded by pulling Phillips for the left-handed Banda.

Although the bases were still loaded, Phillips responded by getting two very big outs.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:36 PM EDT

Phillips struck out Iglesias and stayed on to face pinch hitter Jeff McNeil. This is an interesting decision by Dave Roberts considering Phillips threw 28 pitches.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:33 PM EDT

And this time, JD Martinez fought back from 1-2 and walked, loading the bases. The Mets have the bases loaded and no outs, and are nearing the bottom of the game.

Dave Roberts opted to save Phillips to face right-hander Jose Iglesias. Anthony Banda and Blake Treinen both continue to warm up.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:30 PM EDT

Evan Phillips stayed in the sixth after throwing nine pitches in the fifth inning. Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte responded with back-to-back singles to open the slot.

Anthony Banda is warming up for the Dodgers in a game that hasn’t ended yet.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:22 PM EDT

Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts combined for 5-for-4 hits, 3 walks, 2 home runs, 1 double, 5 RBIs, and 6 runs scored tonight.

It’s also probably worth noting that the Dodgers sat Freddie Freeman to rest his ankle and currently has seven points in six innings. This is important both for this series and the next game if the Dodgers win one of the next three games.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:19 PM EDT

Dodgers 7, Mets 2

Mookie Betts made the Mets pay for Ohtani’s walk and broke things up with a two-run home run. He was jumping down the first base line. The Mets need to score five runs in the fourth inning to avoid a 3-1 loss hole.

If Betts hits like Mookie Betts again…this Dodgers team looks much better.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:14 PM EDT

Shohei Ohtani drew his third walk of the game after his leadoff homer, but these weren’t close balls. Mets pitchers have thrown three walks and two total strikes. They’re clearly avoiding the zone and just hoping he can get them to go after him.

Jose Butt is stepping down from the 2 IP job and will be replaced by Phil Mutton.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:08 PM EDT

Evan Phillips struck out Vientos and got an easy fielder’s choice from Pete Alonso to end a scoreless fifth inning.

Wild stats from the FS1 broadcast: The Dodgers bullpen hasn’t allowed a run in a win this postseason.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:05 PM EDT

The Dodgers have been one of the most aggressive teams in the bullpen this postseason, bringing up starters early and deploying their top relievers wherever there are potential high-leverage situations.

The question is whether its use will cost him seven straight games after a successful five-game stretch against the Padres. Even if they win tonight, it doesn’t really matter.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:03 PM EDT

Yamamoto got his first out by striking out Francisco Lindor, and that was it after throwing 4 1/3 innings and 73 pitches. Manager Dave Roberts brought in Evan Phillips to face Mark Vientos, who hit a home run off Yamamoto in the first inning, and Pete Alonso.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 10:01 PM EDT

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Yoshinobu Yamamoto hit Francisco Alvarez in the left thigh, and the young catcher was clearly in pain. He drags himself around first base as trainers come to check on him.

It looks like he’ll stay, but the question is how far the Dodgers will allow Yamamoto (68 pitches) in the third order. Evan Phillips is emerging at the top of the Mets’ order.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 9:56 PM EDT

The record-setting walk goes to waste. Jose Butt strikes out Andy Page and aims for a scoreless fifth inning.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 9:53 PM EDT

Max Muncy elected to walk, setting an MLB record for reaching base 11 times in a row in a postseason. He can get on base one more time and match Reggie Jackson’s all-time record of 12 straight during the 1977-1978 postseason.

We are all witnesses.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 9:46 PM EDT

After a tough third inning, Yamamoto got through the fourth inning with 10 pitches, 1-2-3. After getting a strikeout from Harrison Bader, boos could be heard at Citi Field.

Yamamoto threw 7K and 66 pitches until the fourth inning. A long start will be significant for the Dodgers, who focused on their bullpen in Game 3.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is working as a sub today.

He had seven strikeouts through four innings, four on sliders and three on splitters.

He generated 15 swings and whiffed on 66 pitches.

Butt ended the threat with a flyout on Teoscar Hernandez and a strikeout on Tommy Edman.

The Mets need to dig a hole for former free agent target Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 9:36 PM EDT

Dodgers 5, Mets 2

Mookie Betts hit a double down the left field line, giving the Dodgers a three-run lead. Shohei Ohtani used his speed to steal 59 bases and ran from first base to home in this game.

Thursday, October 17, 2024 9:32 PM EDT

That should have been enough for Jose Quintana, and the Dodgers offense did what it does best: run opposing starters through the roof. The left-hander pitched 3 1/3 innings, throwing 83 pitches, allowing three walks and five hits before leaving the game.

Jose Butt enters with two runners on and one out, facing Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez.
