Luis Severino walked Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts to lead off the game with three points, and the Dodgers again threatened with no outs. Severino receives a visit from his pitching coach.

The biggest at-bat of the game (so far) ended with Francisco Lindor’s strikeout with the bases loaded. Walker Buehler was heavily relieved, but the Dodgers are still 2-0.

This time, Tyron Taylor walked and the bases were loaded. Buehler went down in a similar situation in the bottom of the second inning of his NLDS start, but we’ll see if this too ends badly.

And now the Mets are under threat due to defensive misplays by the Dodgers. Tommy Edman bounced the ball for a potential double play and lost the ball again on the bounce, leaving New York with one out and two on.

Dodgers 2, Mets 0

Tyrone Taylor made an incredible play on the warning track, narrowly avoiding a collision with Starling Marte and robbing Tommy Edman of extra base.

However, the runner on third base still scores, so the Dodgers score one more point.

Dodgers 1, Mets 0

In a nine-pitch at-bat, Will Smith fought back from a 2-0 deficit to score a run on a come-from-behind hit to Severino. The Dodgers didn’t get an infield hit this inning, but they lost the lead.

Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 8:30 PM EDT

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez got a little too aggressive there. Teoscar Hernandez hit a swinging bunt, and instead of taking an easy out at first, Alvarez tried to throw to second base to hit Max Muncy, who had walked him, but the throw missed.

Both runners were safe, leaving the Dodgers with two on and no outs.

Walker Buehler responded with a scoreless first inning and got his first hit of the game with a two-out infield hit off Brandon Nimmo. But while Buehler seemed fine in the first inning of his last start against the Padres, things took a turn for the worse after that.

Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 8:14 PM EDT

In the 1-2-3 first inning, Luis Severino struck out Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman and was able to get through the top of the Dodgers’ batting lineup (although the final strike to Betts would have been the fourth pitch if it had been a robot amplifier). ). We call that a good start.
