The first Beyond Fitness 5K Run and Walk was a huge success with over 200 runners and walkers participating Sunday morning.

Held around the streets of Hamilton, runners ranging in age from 10 to 71 took part in the main event, a 5k run, with a younger focus on the men’s race.

16-year-old Jackson Langley finished first in 17 minutes, 39 seconds, followed by 14-year-olds Dylan Eiselt (17 minutes, 57 seconds) and Sanchez Smith (17 minutes, 58 seconds), who slightly beat the 31-year-old’s record. In the women’s race, Christine Daly won in 18 minutes and 48 seconds, beating 11-year-old Naomi McGuinness by 10 seconds, shocking the over 30s, with Teresa Lewis third. Ta.

Daly, who is co-owner of Beyond Fitness and helped organize the event, was thrilled with the turnout.

“We were really excited that over 250 people attended,” Daly said.

“I personally am involved in the running community on the island and Beyond Fitness has a lot of members who are interested in running as well as fitness, so this is something we always expect. We thought it would be a really good event to do something for the members.

“When we looked at the fall race calendar, it looked like there were a few races missing, so we got sponsorship offers for this date and went from there.

“We decided to do this only six weeks ago so it was a bit confusing and it was our first time so there was a lot to learn, but we were really happy with the turnout.”

Daley is one of the winners and has not received the prize money he is entitled to, even though the prize is due to be presented to the winner.

“It was definitely a bonus to win, but I’m not going to accept it because it’s awkward to accept the prizes I’ve prepared for you,” she said.

The race also featured Rose-Anna Hoey, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and was running as her last ace before undergoing surgery.

Bermuda’s running community is tight-knit, and Daly was delighted to have her friend, who finished fifth in the women’s race and 21st overall, joining her.

“Normally when we organize a race like this, the proceeds go to charity, but we thought it would be a great idea to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Week in October and donate the proceeds to Bermuda Cancer and Health.” said Daly.

“Rosie is a friend and fellow runner of mine, so I thought I’d include her in the race. It was so cool to have her in the race too.” I’m really happy with how everything went. ”
