Liverpool have big incentives against Arsenal

It was a very good start for Arne Slott as Liverpool manager, winning 11 of his first 12 games.

Last week saw the team clear two hurdles in a seven-game test run in 21 days, defeating Chelsea at home in the Premier League and Germany’s RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The Reds face another tough test ahead of Sunday’s trip to Arsenal, but the big incentive for Slott’s side is that a win would move them seven points clear of the Gunners.

The absence of Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard and William Saliba could help Liverpool’s cause, although Bukayo Saka is also doubtful. You’ll then be able to hear Slot’s thoughts on this big game when he interviews the media at 10:30 UK time.

The Dutchman will look to utilize his squad to keep them as fresh and fit as possible, having had Mohamed Salah sent off after 63 minutes against Leipzig with an eye on Sunday’s game.

However, he has also had his own injury problems. While goalkeeper Alisson Becker and attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott will be absent, Slott also spoke about the condition of forward Diogo Jota, winger Federico Chiesa and right-back Conor Bradley, who missed the trip to Germany. You’ll see if it says anything.

Captain Virgil van Dijk has said he is negotiating a contract extension with the club, and we will see if Slott has anything to say about that.
