TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Dr. Roy Menninger, grandson of the man who founded the Menninger Clinic in 1919 and a longtime mental health leader, passed away on October 24, 2024 at Stormont Vail in Topeka, Kansas. I did.
According to Menninger’s obituary, he would have celebrated his 98th birthday in three days. Mr. Menninger was born October 27, 1926 in Topeka to William Claire Menninger and Catherine Wright Menninger.

The Topeka native attended Washburn University and George Washington University before graduating from Swarthmore College in 1947. After graduating from Swarthmore College, Menninger attended Cornell Medical College and graduated in 1951. Menninger completed his residency at Boston State Hospital and then transferred to the Boston Department of Psychiatry. hospital.
He also led the Menninger Foundation from 1967 to 1993.
Menninger was drafted into the U.S. Army and eventually assigned to the 109th Field Hospital in Salzburg, Austria. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to the Boston area in 1955 to complete his training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, according to his obituary.
