Former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock spoke to BBC Match of the Day about Julen Loptegui’s tactical tweaks at half-time of West Ham’s match against Manchester United.

“One of the players who struggled in the first half was Edson Alvarez. He struggled because of the pace of the game and the movement of Manchester United’s midfield.

“He was a little bit out of position at times. It’s clear that his job was to look after Bruno Fernandes.

“He (Loptegui) made a change at half-time and found Edson Alvarez in the center of the back three. He put Emerson and (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka at wing-back, which allowed West Ham to press The way they play and the way they play has changed.”They will be able to break away from Manchester United’s press.

“It was a really positive change from Lopetegui to change the game. In the first half, they (Man United) created a lot of chances. In the second half, when you have five people behind the ball, it was one of them. “As a defender, I’m really happy when Bruno Fernandes takes a pot shot from outside the box.”
