The Hellenic Observatory at the London School of Economics (LSE) has relaunched as the HO Center for Modern Greek and Cypriot Studies.
Under the new leadership of Professor Vasilis Monastiriotis, the center will focus on three main research themes: gender roles in the economy and society, strategies for sustainable growth and green transition, and citizenship and civic engagement. You will have to guess.
The center aims to explore themes such as occupational segregation based on gender, representation of killers, decarbonization of energy-intensive industries, and regional inequality. We plan to deepen our knowledge in these areas by collaborating with research institutes and public institutions in Greece and Cyprus.
To mark the reopening, Yale Professor Kostas Alkorakis will give a public lecture on Wednesday at the LSE’s Sheikh Zayed Theater, where he will discuss the challenges and opportunities of renewable energy and clean economic growth.
Established in 1996, the Hellenic Observatory has long served as a major center for research on Greece and Cyprus. Its upgrade to a research center, supported by institutional endowments, has ensured its role in shaping policy-relevant scholarship and public debate on contemporary issues in the region.
