Luka Modric makes history for Real Madrid against Celta Vigo
Luka Modric may not be as prominent as he once was at Real Madrid, but he remains an important player for Carlo Ancelotti. He has started three of the last five games and provided an assist in the most recent game against Villarreal. Despite this, he is not expected to start against Celta Vigo on Saturday night.
However, it is almost certain that Modric will feature at some stage, and when he does, he will be making Real Madrid history. According to Cadena SER, he will overtake Ferenc Puskas (39 years and 36 days) to become the club’s oldest player to appear.
Saturday will be Modric’s first chance to break the record, but even if he doesn’t feature at Balaidos, he’s sure to feature at some stage between now and the end of the season.
Another record that Modric has in mind is becoming Real Madrid’s oldest scorer. This is also a record held by Puskas (39 years and 15 minutes). Given that he is still playing at a very high level, it is expected that this too could drop before his time at the Santiago Bernabéu ends.
