Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. collapsed on the field and was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers after being carelessly hit in the head on a pass play.
The game took place in the second quarter. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray targeted Harrison with a pass over the middle. Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander broke up the pass, knocking Harrison to the turf. When Harrison fell, the top of his helmet hit Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie in the thigh, snapping his head back.
Harrison stood up after the blow, clearly stunned. He quickly returned to the lawn.
He went to the sideline medical tent and headed to the locker room with his trainers. The Cardinals announced before halftime that he had been diagnosed with a concussion, but did not immediately rule him out.
The injury will be a big blow to Harrison, who is playing his sixth NFL game, and for a Cardinals team that has struggled to move the ball. Harrison, a first-round rookie, was Arizona’s top receiver until Week 5, with 17 catches for 279 yards and four touchdowns. The Cardinals entered halftime leading the Packers 24-10.
