The National League Championship Series returns to Los Angeles on Sunday after the Mets defeated the Dodgers 12-6 at Citi Field on Friday to force a Game 6, and the home team’s hopes of winning the championship remain high. I’m trying to put an end to it. All New York World Series.
On the mound for the Mets is Sean Manaea, a left-hander who has been good for New York this postseason (2-0, 2.65 ERA, 17 strikeouts in 17 innings). For the Dodgers, it’s right-hander Michael Kopech, who was traded from the White Sox to Los Angeles in July. This is the first time the relief pitcher has started a game in October, but he pitched 4 1/3 innings this postseason, allowing just one hit and no runs, striking out six batters.
If the Dodgers win Game 6, they will face the New York Yankees, who shut out the Cleveland Guardians in overtime in Game 5 on Saturday, in the World Series. If the Mets win tonight, Game 7 of the NLCS will be played in Los Angeles on Monday. Either way, Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday.

Alonso made a great play in the foul area to end the Dodgers threat.
Sean Manaea threw 34 pitches (21 strikes) in the first inning, but was able to limit the damage thanks to a nice catch by Pete Alonso in foul territory.

Tommy Edman leads the Dodgers
Tommy Edman’s double gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Somehow, this also marks the series’ first lead change.

Kopech threw 25 pitches in the first inning.
This probably wasn’t the start to Game 6 that the Dodgers expected.
Michael Kopech’s 25 pitches are the most since the Dodgers acquired him at the trade deadline.

Mets take the lead!
Michael Kopech, a former starting pitcher turned relief pitcher, served as the Dodgers’ opening pitcher, giving Francisco Lindor a leadoff walk, moving to second base on a wild pitch, and advancing to third base on Brandon Nimmo’s grounder. Pete Alonso’s short hopper scored Lindor and put the Mets ahead.

It’s almost time for the first pitch. Michael Kopech is warming up on the mound for the Dodgers’ bullpen game.

Los Angeles ready for Game 6

Kodai Chiga is expected to be a reliever
Kodai Senga was a starter in Game 1 and did not perform well, allowing 2 hits, 4 walks, and 3 runs in 1/3 innings. Still, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expects Chiga to pitch in relief in either Game 6 or 7.
Given the lack of depth in the bullpen, the Mets appear committed to using Kodai Chiga at some point in Game 6 or Game 7 of the NL.
To muster 54 outs over the next two days, Carlos Mendoza said, “Chiga is going to have to play a role.”

Ankle sprain affects Freddie Freeman’s swing mechanics
Fox’s Tom Verducci explained how Freddie Freeman’s sprained right ankle is affecting his swing and why Dodgers manager Dave Roberts left him out of the Game 6 lineup.
“As soon as he put his front foot down, his front side started to collapse and Dave Roberts said, ‘You’re not going to be in Game 6.’

Dodgers lineup, Game 6: Michael Kopech opens, Freddie Freeman sits.
Reliever Michael Kopech is scheduled to start the Dodgers’ bullpen games. He has played in five postseason games and is scoreless.
First baseman Freddie Freeman will miss the matchup with Mets left-hander Sean Manaea, resting his sprained ankle. He will be available as a pinch hitter.
Who will start Game 7 if necessary? The Dodgers hope that doesn’t happen.
