OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – A new ice rink, basketball court, arcade and more will help kids across the Kansas City metro reach their sports goals.
AdventHealth Sports Park opened Saturday morning, Oct. 26, at Blue Hawk in Overland Park, 16201 Shawnee Dr. Construction on the first phase of the 420,000 square foot park is now complete.
Project leaders said an NHL-sized rink, eight basketball courts and a 4,000-square-foot field will all be highlights of the park. The facility will house a TPH academy to help children focus on both sports and education.
“Supporting the health, physical and mental health of our community and giving kids a place to compete and create memories and dreams. It’s healthy for everyone and that’s the focus,” Advent Health Sports said Greg Jackson, the park’s general manager. “It’s a safe environment for kids to come and play, get some exercise, continue to grow in sports and go beyond this.”
Leaders also plan to develop the area around the facility and add a family entertainment center that will house a cafe, AR, arcade games, bowling, laser tag and sports simulators.
