The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, clinching a spot in the World Series for the first time since 2009.
In Game 5, the Yankees won 5-2 as Juan Soto hit a three-run homer off a fastball from Cleveland pitcher Hunter Gaddis in the 10th inning.
Before that, Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
“When you win and lead your team to the World Series, it’s the best feeling in the game,” Soto said. “This is the best feeling ever. That’s what we’re playing for.
“We’ve done a really good job since day one. We’ve worked hard. We’re now the best team in the American League.”
The Yankees will face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Mets in the World Series.
The Dodgers lead the National League Series finals 3-2 and will host Game 6 on Sunday.
