The injury report released Sunday for Week 7 of the NFL season has some big names at the top, as well as potentially season-altering injuries for several teams across the league. are. The most serious-looking situation of the weekend occurred during the Sunday Night Football game between the Jets and the Steelers, when New York guard Xavier Newman was carried off the field on the backboard and suffered a neck injury to Pittsburgh. He was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, initial reports said Newman was conscious and moving when he was taken from Acresure Stadium.
Other star players left the game early Sunday morning with injuries as well, including Cleveland’s Deshaun Watson, Washington’s Jaden Daniels and San Francisco’s Brandon Iuk. Here are some of the news and notes released during Week 7.
Xavier Newman released from Pittsburgh hospital
The horrifying scene that took place at Acresure Stadium ended up being a precautionary measure. Jets guard Xavier Newman was tested after suffering a neck injury, but the test came back negative for a serious injury. After the Jets lost 37-15 to the Steelers, he was able to return to New York with the team. The Jets confirmed the neck injury after the game, but the extent of the injury is not yet known.

Deshaun Watson suffers Achilles tendon rupture
It’s another devastating injury for the Browns quarterback, whose career has been marred by scandals, suspensions and lengthy stints on injured reserve. Watson went down with a non-contact injury and was dragged off the field during Cleveland’s 21-14 loss to the Bengals.
On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that an MRI confirmed that Watson suffered a torn Achilles tendon, which will keep him out for at least the remainder of the 2024 season. After signing a five-year, $230 million contract during his three seasons in Cleveland, Watson has played in just six games in each of those three years.
49ers believe Brandon Aiyuk has possible anterior cruciate ligament injury
In another devastating blow to the 49ers’ offense, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a possible torn ACL in San Francisco’s 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s true. Coach Kyle Shanahan said the same thing after the game, in which Jauan Jennings was sidelined with a hip injury and Deebo Samuel appeared in just three games after falling ill on Sunday. The 49ers’ offense has been decimated by injuries this season, with George Kittle missing games and Christian McCaffrey unable to play at all in 2024 due to Achilles tendonitis.
Jaden Daniels leaves early with rib injury
The front-runner for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year left Washington’s 40-7 win over Carolina due to a rib injury. The team didn’t miss a beat without him, but with the injury report, it might not last long — that is, if his mother is to be believed. During the game, she posted to X, “He’s fine,” and Daniels finished the game on the sideline while warming up.

The Commanders will play the Bears on Sunday.
Jaden Daniels status updated weekly. Rib damage. “We hope he can play, but at the same time we’ll make sure to take every precaution,” Dan Quinn said.

No news yet on QB Jayden Daniels’ health status after rib injury
The coaches are waiting to hear about Jaden Daniels’ health, as are we. He left Washington’s 40-7 win over the Panthers early with a rib injury. The Athletic’s Mike Jones reports that it may be several days before we know Daniels’ status for Sunday’s game against the Bears.
The coaches are waiting to learn more about Jaden Daniels’ health. I’m told we may not know if he’ll be available for the meeting with Caleb Williams and the Bears until Wednesday or Thursday.

Mike Tomlin happy with Russell Wilson’s decision
After the Steelers defeated the Jets 37-15 on Sunday night, head coach Mike Tomlin sat at the podium and made one of his boldest decisions to date: replacing veteran QB Russell Wilson with youngster Justin. He answered a question about starting the game instead of Fields.
Tomlin is probably the most professional coach in the entire NFL. He didn’t use the presser to soak in the compliments, he used it to honestly evaluate the game his team played. But when former NFL wide receiver and Pittsburgh native Brandon Marshall stopped by to ask him a question, he allowed a moment of levity to end the incident.
Brandon Marshall stopped by the postgame presser and asked Mike Tomlin if starting Russell Wilson was the boldest decision.
