TechCorps awarded pre-apprenticeship certificates to Oberlin High School students at the Sept. 26 Oberlin School Board meeting, according to a news release.
The students recognized were Jaylin Williams, Jaden Strayer, Erica O’Neal, Preston Cauthern, Matthew DeWitt, Asmit Mehta, and Ason Bell.
According to Michelle Moore, regional manager for TechCorps Northeast Ohio, the goal of the program is to prepare students for the workforce by teaching them practical skills to practice and use during pre-apprenticeship training.
“These skills include technical skills such as hardware, software, networking; technical support; customer relations; and specialized, enduring skills such as critical thinking,” Moore said in the release. said.
Students also had the opportunity to connect with local technology experts and explore the technology field, Oberlin City School District Director of Families and Family Support Jay Nimeen said during the school board meeting, according to a release.
“In-demand technology skills prepare high school students for their future careers, improve their problem-solving abilities and foster innovation in a digital world,” Nimene said.
Oberlin High School senior Matthew DeWitt said TechCorps is a fun way to learn web development.
“For me, this program taught me how to develop a website that looks professional. I also learned what it means to work as a team with other like-minded people on such projects. ,” DeWitt said in the release. “This program provided me with valuable information and tools that will help me with the career path I intend to pursue.”
Students participated in the program from June 10th to July 19th at Lorain County Community College.
