LAWRENCE, Kan. – Similar to the preseason Associated Press poll, Kansas men’s basketball was ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll released Oct. 23.

Kansas received 15 of the 32 first-place votes from the coaching staff, totaling 743 votes. Alabama received six first-place votes and finished second with 718 points. UW also received six first-place votes and placed third. Houston finished in 4th place with 4 first-place votes, followed by Duke University in 5th place, Iowa State in 6th place, Gonzaga University in 7th place, Baylor University in 8th place, University of Arizona in 9th place, and University of North Carolina in 10th place in the top 10. .

This is the fifth time in two consecutive seasons that Kansas has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, including in the Self era (1996-97, 2004-05, 2009-10, 2018-19, 2023). There are 4 schools. -24 and 2024-25.

The No. 1 ranking marks the 11th consecutive year Kansas has finished fifth or higher in the coaches’ poll dating back to 2014-2015. Additionally, this is the 19th time in the Self era that the Jayhawks have finished seventh or higher in the preseason, including the past 13 seasons.

Kansas will play 10 games against teams ranked in the preseason top 25 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. KU has No. 4 Houston (twice), No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Iowa State (twice), No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 Arizona, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 14 Creighton, and No. 20 Cincinnati.
