Russell Wilson: I’m confident, I’m more myself physically.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has not named a starting quarterback for Sunday night’s game against the Jets, but all signs point to Russell Wilson being named for the first time this season.

Wilson spent the offseason and preseason as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart, but a calf injury left him before Week 1, leaving Justin Fields to start the first six games of the season. On Thursday, Wilson said he is “ready to go” and “confident” after extended time on the bench to start his first year in Pittsburgh.

“I’m feeling more like myself physically, running well and everything else, so I’m feeling good,” Wilson said in a press conference.

Wilson was asked if he thought he had anything to prove after two poor years in Denver and what he called a “disappointing” start to this season.

“I think every time I step between the white lines, I’m proving something,” Wilson said. “You’re proving who your team is as a group and who we are as a team. That’s the focus.”

Wilson said he thought Fields “did a great job,” and as for what role the QB will play going forward, he said, “The best thing for us is to just focus on winning this week and not worry about anything going forward.” Don’t even think about it,” he said. Assuming Wilson is successfully acquired, his performance will have a lot to do with what happens down the road.
