The Rutgers University football team smashed Virginia Tech at home last season.

Today, the Scarlet Knights will try to do it again, this time on the road.

So far, so good for Greg Schiano’s team.

Rutgers still had a comfortable lead going into the third quarter.

Check here for score updates and highlights throughout the match.

4th quarter, 4:35: Rutgers loses lead, Virginia Tech ties the game at 23-23.

It was a stunning comeback for the Hokies, and missed opportunities — two missed field goals, a fumble inside the five and a missed fourth-and-goal attempt from the 1-yard line — came back to haunt the Scarlet Knights.

Beischl-Tueten scored on a 2-yard run, followed by a Virginia Tech two-pointer to tie the score at 23-23.

The Rutgers defense couldn’t stop Kyron Draughns and the Hokies’ offense on that drive.

4th quarter, 14:06: Virginia Tech takes Rutgers lead.

Beischl Teuthen scored on a 14-yard touchdown run and the Hokies converted for a two-point drive to give the Scarlet Knights a 23-15 lead.

Rutgers missed multiple chances to hang on to the Hokies in this game.

3rd quarter, 10:44: Sam Brown runs in from 5 yards for his second touchdown of the game.

Rutgers won 23-7.

1:57, 2nd quarter: Rutgers gets a safety to extend their lead.

This game has a little bit of everything.

Here, Wesley Bailey rushed Virginia quarterback Kyron Draughns on third down and eight from the five-yard line, then sacked him in the end zone for a Rutgers safety.

16-7 Rutgers.

2nd quarter, 13:00: Virginia Tech cuts Rutgers’ lead.

Hokies running back Beischul Teuthen scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to give Virginia Tech the lead.

The Scarlet Knights are currently at 14-7.

1st quarter, 0:41: Rutgers football extends lead against Virginia Tech

It was a great first quarter for the Scarlet Knights.

Sam Brown ran in from 3-yards to put Rutgers up 14-0. After consecutive great plays by defensive ends Jordan Thompson and Aaron Lewis forced a Virginia Tech turnover on downs, Rutgers began its offensive drive from its own 39-yard line.

7:41, 1st quarter: Rutgers football takes early lead over Virginia Tech

Rutgers took a 7-0 lead over the Scarlet Knights on a Kyle Monangai run in from one yard out on third-and-goal.

The Scarlet Knights faked a QB keeper and handed the ball to Monangai, who ran it around the left side to the end zone.

It was a great start for Rutgers. After Nasir Montgomery forced a fumble on a Hokies punt return that was recovered by the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers began their drive at the Virginia Tech 31-yard line.

Rutgers vs Virginia Tech predictions, picks and odds

As of Sept. 20, Virginia Tech is favored by 3.5 points, according to the Action Network.

O/U: 44.5 or higher (-112), 44.5 or lower (-108)

Moneyline: Rutgers +138, Virginia Tech -163

Virginia Tech came into the season with high expectations, but the Hokies haven’t lived up to them. At least for now. Rutgers’ offense is on fire, and if they can run the ball effectively and the defense can contain the Draughns, the Scarlet Knights have a good chance of finishing 3-0. Rutgers 27, Virginia Tech 17
