As the digital health and wearable device industry grows, accurate data measurement and analysis are becoming increasingly important. On September 27, Samsung Electronics released Samsung Health Research Stack to enhance the database’s digital health research.
Samsung Health Research Stack is an open source project from Samsung Electronics that supports digital health research using mobile and wearable devices in Android and Wear OS environments. The platform provides IT developers and medical researchers with a software environment to conveniently and securely plan services using relevant data.
Because clinical research requires apps and services that continuously measure, share, and analyze health-related data from users’ daily lives, Samsung Health Research Stack helps researchers implement the functionality they desire. That’s what I’m aiming for.
Following the launch of Samsung Health Stack Alpha in 2022 and Samsung Health Stack 1.0 in 2023, Samsung has announced the latest version of Samsung Health Research Stack 2.0 Beta. The open source project has been rebranded to Samsung Health Research Stack and is dedicated to supporting the research ecosystem as part of the newly launched Samsung Health SDK Suite, a comprehensive package of software development tools for healthcare solutions. I emphasized.
New features to support research by researchers
Samsung Health Research Stack drives more efficient digital health research. Features include an app SDK to easily create applications, backend services to manage data collected by the app, and a web portal to assist with survey design and data analysis. In response to feedback from researchers, the latest version includes even more useful features.
The App SDK is a development tool that reduces the cost and time required to develop applications for digital health, and now supports the development of both mobile apps for research and smartwatch apps that utilize wearable sensor data. Ta. In particular, enhanced support for the Sensor SDK now allows researchers to create watch apps that measure and utilize electrocardiogram, blood oxygen level, and body composition data from the innovative Galaxy Watch1 sensor. Ta. The new Data SDK integration helps researchers create applications that use sleep data from the Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring.
Additionally, we’ve improved the performance and usability of our backend services and web portal. The backend architecture has been enhanced to include additional features for managing research and to handle data from large-scale clinical trials. The web portal supports the research process, from patient recruitment and research to progress tracking and data analysis.
Deployed at SDC24 to drive results around the world
The Samsung Health Research Stack is open to any company or healthcare organization in the digital healthcare space that develops solutions using wearable devices and biomarkers.
Samsung Health Research Stack will be unveiled at Samsung Developer Conference 2024 (SDC24) on October 3 in San Jose, California. Developers can participate in code lab sessions during the event to experience the latest features first-hand.
“Samsung Health Research Stack is already being used in multiple domestic and international clinical studies using Galaxy Watch,” said Yunsu Lee, head of data intelligence team at Samsung Research. “With our innovative wearable technology, we aim to contribute to the expansion of the digital health ecosystem and serve as a valuable partner for IT and healthcare professionals in achieving research breakthroughs.”
The latest version of Samsung Health Research Stack is available on the Samsung Developer website and GitHub.
1 Available on Galaxy Watch 4 and later models with Wear OS. Supported data may vary depending on sensor type and model.
