New Delhi, Oct 14: The Supreme Court on Monday sought directions to the government to set up fast-track courts and vaccine tribunals to provide speedy justice to those injured due to COVID-19 vaccination and their families. The lawsuit (PIL) was dismissed.
The bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud said the petitioners may choose to file a class action suit instead of filing a PIL in the Supreme Court.
The bench, which also included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, proceeded to dismiss the PIL after pointing out that the petitioners had not personally suffered any adverse impact.
The petition said there was a “continued risk” of long-term health effects from COVID-19 vaccinations and that controversy over vaccine side effects was denying deaths.
“Vaccination has been the cornerstone of controlling the pandemic and the spread of the disease, but recently there have been growing concerns about the safety and adverse health effects (SAHI) of the coronavirus vaccine among the general public. AstraZeneca, one of the world’s leading drug makers, has acknowledged that its COVID-19 vaccine may cause rare side effects such as blood clotting and low platelet counts after vaccination.
