HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Authorities have identified a man as the gunman in a deadly shooting in the Myrtle Beach area, and he is now in jail.
Horry County Police arrested 29-year-old Morgan Folta and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The charges against Folta stem from a shooting that happened on Sept. 12 on Breakers Drive.
An arrest warrant said a Myrtle Beach man “maliciously and premeditated” shot a woman in the head with a handgun, causing her death.
The warrant cites as evidence in the case statements Folta allegedly made to staff at Lighthouse Behavioral Hospital, a psychiatric clinic in the Conway area.
Police detained Folta at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday, according to prison records, but public records show Folta’s arrest as occurring on Sunday.
As of this writing, he remains in custody with no bail set.
The shooting victim in this incident has not yet been identified.
