Texas Tech (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) vs. TCU (4-3, 2-2), Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (Fox)

BetMGM College Football Odds: TCU 6 1/2 Difference.

Series record: Texas Tech leads 33-30-3.

What’s the problem?

A saddle trophy awarded to the winner of this rivalry game. TCU will seek back-to-back wins in the Big 12 for the first time since the undefeated 2022 regular season. The Red Raiders are looking to bounce back from their first Big 12 loss. They were beaten by an astonishing 24 points at home against Baylor, which had lost its first three games in conference play.

major matchups

Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton averages 275 passing yards and 17 TDs per game, making him one of nine quarterbacks in the FBS and the only one in the Big 12 to pass the ball. He has 200 attempts and fewer than three interceptions. The Horned Frogs are allowing just 161.7 yards per game, and only one team (UCF) has thrown for at least 200 yards against the Horned Frogs.

Featured players

Texas Tech: Big 12 rushing leader Taj Brooks (134 ypg) became the second FBS player since 1996 to rush for at least 95 yards in 17 consecutive games. The most in that span was 19 consecutive goals scored by Minnesota’s Mohamed Ibrahim from 2020 to 2022. Brooks has gained over 100 yards in 14 of those games, including 146 yards against TCU last year.

TCU: In his third year, sophomore QB Josh Hoover is averaging 324.3 yards per game, even after his nine-game streak of at least 20 completions and two TDs ended in a 13-7 win over Utah last week. He is the Big 12’s passing leader. Hoover completed 66.4 percent of his passes (184 of 277), just shy of the single-season school record of 67.3 percent. He has 2,270 passing yards, on pace to break Trevon Boykin’s single-season school record of 3,901 yards.

facts and figures

Tech’s 35-28 home win last season ended the Frogs’ series winning streak at four, the longest since they won the first five games they played from 1926 to 1930. …TCU receivers’ 21.3 receptions per game are the most of any Power 4 team. … The Frogs have recorded at least 10 first-down passes in 19 consecutive games. LSU’s 23rd streak is the only FBS streak. … The Red Raiders are 11-3 in one-possession games under third-year coach Joey McGuire.
