Enjoying New York Times Connection puzzles? There’s a new version of the game that focuses on sports-related words. It’s simply called “Connections: Sports Edition,” and it has hints and answers.

At the moment, the game is in beta, meaning the Times is testing it to see if it’s popular before adding it to the site’s gaming app. You can play for free every day for the next few weeks, but after that you’ll have to see if you can continue playing.

How to play Connections: Sports Edition

The rules are almost the same as the regular game. You will be given 16 words and asked to categorize them into four groups that are connected in some way. The main difference is that all the words and categories are tied to some kind of sport. Sometimes the categories may seem obvious, but the game tries to trick you by using sports-related words that fit into multiple groups. And the four groups of words have different levels of difficulty. Yellow is the easiest and purple is the most difficult, but you won’t know which color group is which until you solve the puzzle.

You don’t need to be a sports fan to solve Connections: Sports Edition, but it helps to know a little about different sports and athletes. Words may include player names, team names, and sports-related activities.
