RUSTON, La. (AP) — After a fumble return was thwarted in overtime that initially looked like it would decide the game, Tulsa settled for a 34-yard field goal and beat Louisiana Tech 23-20 on Saturday night.
Miles Jackson hit Louisiana Tech quarterback Evan Bullock from behind on the first possession of overtime, and defensive end Owen Ostrosky picked up the ball and ran slowly 64 yards before being caught by Donnellio Davenport at the 1-yard line. Ostrosky’s forearm hit the pylon before the ball crossed the goal line. Instead, Tulsa lined up at the Louisiana Tech 25, and Morgan kicked the winning point four plays later.
Louisiana Tech (1-2) scored on a 1-yard run by Blake Baker early in the fourth quarter, but the PAT was blocked by a high snap and the Bulldogs trailed 17-13. Evan Bullock, who entered after Baker was injured, hit Eli Finley for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 3:14 left to give Louisiana Tech its first lead of the night. Morgan then made his second of three field goals to send the game into overtime.
Jack Turner started as the Bulldogs’ quarterback but was replaced by Baker before Brock finished the game.
Kirk Francis of the Golden Hurricane (2-2) completed 24 of 36 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown.
