Tech and North Carolina have played each other 58 times since 1915, and the two programs have met every year since 1980, with the exception of the COVID-19 affected 2020 season. The Jackets have won three straight in 33 of 58 games. Since 1998, Tech is 19-6 against the Tar Heels.
Last season, Tech rallied in the fourth quarter to beat then-17th-ranked UNC 46-42 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Jackets amassed 635 yards of offense as running back Donte Smith ran for 178 yards with a touchdown and quarterback Haynes King threw for 287 yards and four scores.
