Hubstaff Report
/ Released on September 23, 2024
Johns Hopkins University is once again requiring students, faculty and staff to get their annual flu vaccination. The deadline to upload this year’s vaccination proof is Friday, November 15th.
The community messages were sent Friday to university faculty and staff by Executive Vice President Steven Gange and Interim Vice President for Human Resources Meredith Stewart, and to students by Vice President for Student Health and Wellness Kevin Shollenberger and Chief Medical Director for Student Health and Wellness Roanna Kessler.
“Influenza vaccination is the best way to prevent infection and reduce the severity of illness,” the administrators wrote. “Getting your flu shot before the end of October will provide optimal protection during this respiratory virus season.”
The requirement for the 2024-25 academic year is an extension of obligations that have been in place since 2020. The obligation applies to those who work or study in-person on Johns Hopkins campuses. It does not apply to 100% remote associates, i.e., those who have never visited a Johns Hopkins facility or conducted business in a public setting on behalf of Johns Hopkins. Employees of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Applied Physics Laboratory are subject to their respective policies and procedures. School of Medicine associates follow JHM policies and procedures.
Instructions for uploading proof of vaccination will vary by school and affiliation, but a list of upcoming clinics at each Hopkins site can be found on the University’s Required Flu Vaccine webpage.
Where to get your flu shot Onsite Clinics: Influenza vaccines will be provided to students and employees at a series of onsite JHU clinics outlined on the Required Vaccines Influenza Policy webpage. Affiliates attending walk-in clinics must complete the required form in advance and bring it with them along with their JHU identification: Occupational Health Clinics at the Homewood Campus and East Baltimore. Please bring your Hopkins ID. Walgreens: JHU faculty and staff can receive flu vaccinations at no cost at any Walgreens using a JHU flu vaccine voucher available in the Vaccine Management System (VMS). Walgreens clinics will automatically upload proof of vaccination to the VMS. Pharmacies and Clinics: Affiliates can receive the vaccine at their local pharmacy or at their primary care physician. Copayments may apply for visits to a health care provider. Proof of Vaccination
If you received your flu vaccine outside of Walgreens at a Johns Hopkins sponsored vaccine clinic or using a flu voucher, you must submit proof of vaccination. This applies even if the doctor/clinic that administered the vaccine is within the Johns Hopkins network. Your submission must include, at a minimum, a clear scan or photo of the record including your name, vaccination date, and vaccination location (e.g. Giant, CVS, or clinic name). If you did not receive a receipt and were vaccinated in Maryland, you can download your proof of flu vaccination from the Maryland’s myIR.com website.
exception
Anyone seeking a religious or medical exception to receiving the flu vaccination must apply by Thursday, Oct. 31. If a religious exception was approved last year, there is no need to apply again. For more information, University officials can visit the mandatory flu vaccination website, and Johns Hopkins Medicine officials can visit the flu campaign website.
